This year’s Youth in Action event was more than worthwhile. Participants actively shared their experiences and worked together to address issues related to international youth work. Movetia also presented the measures from the ZHAW’s in-depth analysis.

The theme of this year’s exchange on exchange which took place on 17 September was “On the road again”. For the second year in a row, it was hosted at the Heitere Fahne in Wabern near Bern.

The event kicked off with a welcome address and a game of bingo to break the ice. The 13 measures defined in the in-depth analysis conducted by the ZHAW were then presented and brought to life by Christophe Bettin and Laurin Reding, Division Head and Project Manager from Movetia’s Youth team. Some of the measures that came out of the analysis include more regional events, meetings of multipliers, an overview of funding instruments and enhanced cooperation with Eurodesk.

In a breakout session, participants worked in groups to think about international youth work by defining their own questions and sharing their experiences of planning and implementation. These included issues such as how to find motivated participants and partners, and how to encourage volunteers to invest time and money in projects. Another group discussed how global challenges can be combined with regional needs and how exchange can be carried out virtually. Questions were also raised on where the boundaries lie in practice between formal and non-formal education methods and how non-formal education can be improved and made measurable. You can read the outcomes of the discussions in this document.

The packed afternoon programme ended with a dance show by the Bern Hiphop Center youth exchange and networking drinks. Movetia can look back on a successful event.
