Some 35 participants in language assistance programme already selected.

This year’s application process for Movetia’s language assistance programme will close soon. This offer gives student and newly graduated language teachers the opportunity to teach their mother tongue abroad. At the same time, they can immerse themselves in the culture and language of the destination country in order, subsequently, to teach those subjects to pupils in Switzerland. From autumn 2017, around 35 teachers from Switzerland will be working in one of the four partner countries (Great Britain, Germany, France or Austria). In return, 60 or so young foreign teachers will assist teachers in Switzerland.

Participant numbers this year are below the average for the last five years. As in previous years, the positions in Great Britain were very much sought-after. Nineteen applicants have been accepted. French-speakers from Switzerland are showing a gratifyingly high level of interest in Germany, where demand for French-speaking Swiss teachers remains just as great. Eight assistants have been successfully placed in our neighbouring country to the north. On the other hand, interest in Austria and France has declined this year.

The period for applications for France runs until 26th May.

Regardless of their destination country, all participants in the programme have one thing in common: as future teachers, they want to be able to stand in front of their pupils with a firm grasp and knowledge of their foreign languages. The next stage of the placement process is a preparatory seminar organised by Movetia at the end of June for all programme participants.
