Global citizenship education – a model for international exchange
The promotion of global citizenship education is one of the goals of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, which was adopted by the United Nations at the end of 2015. The Swiss UNESCO Commission is focusing on this education concept and how it can be integrated in non-formal and informal education in Switzerland.
In light of this, Movetia took part in the Swiss UNESCO Commission workshop on the topic, which was held in Bern on 18 May. The workshop aimed to identify the topics of interest and potential of global citizenship education in Switzerland. The event brought together many civil society actors and organisations involved in extracurricular youth work and adult education to discuss how this education approach could be applied in Switzerland and how it could contribute to solving global problems. The results of the discussions will be incorporated in the policy brief of the Swiss UNESCO Commission (in progress). International exchange projects in extracurricular youth work and adult education are an ideal opportunity to expand on the concept of global citizenship education and to identify ways it can be applied locally, regionally and globally.
