Student mobility and international cooperation: future prospects for the internationalisation of higher education
International collaboration enriches the Swiss education system and contributes to its ongoing development, as well as to its appeal and excellence. Mobility and cooperation are fundamental elements in internationalisation, they reinforce quality, and foster innovation in the Swiss school system. Starting in 2021, various new programmes to be launched in Europe and Switzerland will define cooperation in the European dimension of higher education, making this an ideal and decisive moment to discuss issues and work together on themes and concepts linked to the development of the necessary financing instruments.
Which international activities enrich the school system? Which contribute to its improvement? How can innovative technologies facilitate collaboration? How will digitalisation influence the student and personal mobility programmes and institutional cooperation of the future? Will it foster greener, more virtual mobility? What opportunities and difficulties will it pose for the internationalisation of higher education?
These questions influence the development of future cooperation and mobility programmes for Swiss universities and are thus the focus of the annual event to be held at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana on November 21-22, 2019. Organised by the national Movetia agency together with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), this annual higher education event is an occasion for encounter and exchange between leading figures at various Swiss universities on the future scenario of cooperation and mobility programmes aimed at the internationalisation of Switzerland’s tertiary system.
Throughout the first day, themes of current interest, linked to national, European, and international mobility and cooperation in the field of education, will be addressed in the company of nationally-known figures and international speakers. This will be followed at the end of the day by an event dedicated to networking with the participation of State Councillor Manuele Bertoli. The second day will focus on current programmes and potential future scenarios. Reflections on the identification and development of financing instruments for Swiss universities will be the subject of the various workshops on offer.
