General conditions for applicants

An institution may submit one application per call for European mobility projects in the field of vocational training. Within the scope of a European mobility project, apprentices, apprentice graduates and persons responsible for vocational education (teachers, trainers, etc.) can all participate in a mobility project simultaneously. Subsidised mobility projects allow institutions to send Swiss residents abroad. As part of the same project, foreign partner institutions may send the same number of individuals to Switzerland.

Project planning

Many different aspects must be considered between the idea and submission of your application. Movetia sees itself as a partner and wants to help you develop your concept. For this reason, we have developed seven steps for a successful project:

1. Idea

You want to implement a mobility project with partners in other European countries for individuals or groups and would like more information about implementation.

  • Inspiration and added value: To find ideas for possible mobility activities, you can get inspiration from other mobility projects.
  • Length of stay, project design and organisational mode: Use our overview (DE) to define the right stay duration based on the educational situation, the target group and the scope of your project as well as the support from your partners in Switzerland or abroad.
  • Finding partners: For international educational cooperations, you must find at least one partner institution per destination country that is interested in participating in the project. You can use our list of ideas and addresses to find the right partner for your project (DE). We continuously publish requests for collaboration from potential European partner institutions.
  • Guide: The guide (DE) tells you everything you need to know about project planning and implementation. Simply follow the guide for a successful project.
  • Preparatory visits: You can submit a request for funding for preparatory visits before you submit your application so that you can communicate with your partner institution(s) on location and define the project organisation details.

2. Consulting

This includes discussing your project idea, holding presentations in small groups or clarifying technical aspects. We offer individual consulting sessions where you can find out more about what aspects are eligible for funding and about financial support from Movetia, among other things.

  • Best practices and references: Movetia presents suitable examples of projects und explains the funding and support structures. We can also put you in touch with current project managers as needed. You can find out which projects are made possible in this way and who receives funding on this page.
  • Allowances and eligible countries: Project funding is based on allowances for organisational and travel costs and the costs of the stay. You can find a detailed overview of the funding amounts in the grant table. All programme countries are included on the map
  • Work placement / Thematic project work and preparatory language training: Work placement and thematic project work for apprentices and apprenticeship graduates may be combined with preparatory language training. In this case, the costs of the course are not covered, but rather the additional time spent abroad is subsidised with subsistence allowances.
The following rule is definitive in this:
    a) A mobility of minimum 2 weeks up to 2 months entitles the participant to linguistic preparation lasting a maximum of 2 weeks.
    b) A mobility period of more than 2 months entitles the participant to  linguistic preparation lasting a maximum of 1 month.
  • Reporitng and documentation: All project-relevant documents (e.g. mobility agreements, proof of insurance, recommendations for holidays, etc.) can be accessed at all times.
  • Additional funding: In addition to funding mobility projects, Movetia also offers additional financial support measures, always with the goal of strengthening the internationalisation of vocational training. Movetia supports the creation of coordination structures as well as the development of communication products and participation in or organisation of international conferences.
  • Project Lounge: The Project Lounge (see Events) is a straightforward consulting and event format offered by Movetia before the deadline for application submissions. In addition to making an appointment for consulting on matters related to vocational training, the Project Lounge also offers you the opportunity to communicate with colleagues in other areas (school education, adult education, Youth in Action and higher education) as well as with the other participants.

3. Project conception

Once Movetia has helped determine which content and formats are eligible for funding, the applicant must develop and personalise their project idea.

  • Award criteria: The list of award criteria contains more information about our evaluation process and project funding. Applications are reviewed in terms of formal, substantive and financial aspects.
  • Project duration and planning: In your application, you can define a term of agreement for the mobility project and choose a period of 12 or 24 months. Depending on the project planning, you can submit your application in spring or autumn. Please observe our deadlines (refer to the right-hand column).
  • Length of stay without travel days: Every mobility activity (e.g. work placement, job shadowing, etc.) is defined in terms of a minimum and maximum length of stay that must always be kept in mind. You are free to define the length of stay within these minimum and maximum durations.
Travel days (for persons responsible for vocational education: travel days not including any activities) are not included in the length of stay.
  • Application form: You can already refer to the application form at (DE) or as a PDF in german (once the call is closed) to integrate your responses to the individual questions into your project concept.
  • Quality assurance: For quality assurance purposes, make sure that you have an overview of all standard responsibilities of the project-relevant actors. Use this information for clarification during project conception in communication with your partner institution(s).
  • Inputs regarding internationalisation: You can use the ABCs of Internationalisation, which illustrates success factors for a mobility project on the basis of 26 inputs, as a tool to help you integrate strategies for international educational cooperation into your project. Erasmus+ also has an internationalisation guide for vocational education that could be helpful to you during project conception.
  • Digitalisation: Digital tools can be used to support communication and exchange between all persons involved before, during and after mobility projects. In addition to free use of Realto – the platform for networked vocational training – there are additional interactive and web-based tools at your disposal.
