The mobility project supports continuing education and training, classroom observation and teaching activities for teachers and other school staff in another European country.

Swiss school staff continue their education and training in other European countries

With the European Mobility School Education Programme, teachers from Switzerland have the opportunity to broaden their professional skills at schools in other European countries. Other school staff can also take advantage of this mobility project. The objective is to develop quality and promote innovation at Swiss schools as well as to encourage teachers to be open and receptive to the social, linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe.

  • Teaching observation in classrooms (job shadowing)
  • Teaching assignments

Which countries can be considered for a mobility?

  • The 28 EU member states
  • The EFTA / EEA states Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway
  • Turkey and the former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia

How long does a mobility project last?

Project duration: 1 or 2 years
Duration of individual activities: 2 days to 2 months (excluding travel time)

An unlimited number of activities can be applied for within a project. 

Who can take part in mobility projects?

Teachers and other educational staff employed at a school based in Switzerland.

Who can submit an application for a mobility project?

  • Schools (nursery schools to secondary schools) or institutions involved in coordinating them. Individuals cannot submit applications. The applying institution must be based in Switzerland.
  • Consortia: Swiss school education institutions with a school-coordinating function can submit a project jointly for themselves and at least two schools.

How are Movetia projects supported?

Funding for mobility projects is generally based on flat-rate amounts for travel, subsistence (costs of stay), organisation and course costs.

The grant depends on the duration of the mobility, the planned activities, the number of participants and the destination country.
