The Committee of the Upper Chamber approves continuation of the Interim Solution for Erasmus+ and, at the same time, calls for full association for the new generation of programmes from 2021.

On 28th August, the Committee for Science, Education and Culture of the Upper Chamber considered the continuation of the Interim Solution for Erasmus+. Movetia also took part in the hearing, where it pointed out the specific difficulties for Swiss education institutions: complex bilateral agreements have to be negotiated in order to maintain part of the European programmes. Moreover, Switzerland is excluded from the international network and further development of the EU Programme for Education.

The majority of the Committee declared itself in favour of continuation of the Interim Solution, as proposed by the Federal Council. At the same time, however, it is calling for it to remain an interim solution and makes this clear with a Committee motion. This requires the Federal Council to begin negotiations as soon as possible for a full association of Switzerland to Erasmus+ for the new generation of programmes from 2021.
